Canadian RSO Handbook & other documents on AECB website.

Hi Radsafers,

For eight years (1989-1997) I was member of Canada's AECB Advisory
Committee on Radiological Protection (ACRP), which is a group of
independent consultants selected for their expertise in various areas of
radiation safety and related sciences. On behalf of the ACRP, I
supervised the development of the RSO Handbook, which has benefitted
from the contributions of a number of authors and editors. Section A of
the Handbook deals with a review of the basic sciences, while Section B
is much more oriented to the practical aspects of establishing and
running an effective radiation safety program in a medical or academic
institution. Much of the material contained in the RSO Handbook is
generic (not specific to Canadian regulatory requirements) and will
probably be of interest to those working as radiation safety
professionals in other countries. The RSO Handbook is still in draft
form and has been put onto the AECB web-site for comments, suggestions
and other forms of constructive criticism. The document is not perfect
yet, which is why it has been placed on the AECB web-site to get the
widest possible distribution and feedback (Canada and elsewhere). See
the directions at the bottom of this message to navigate your way to
the AECB website. Please forward your written comments and suggestions
to:

You may also wish to review two other consultative documents put out for
public comment on the AECB Website. See web navigation details below.

GMA-12: Proposed Guide for Ionizing Radiation Exposure for the
Occupational Physician. (under Reports and Papers)
C-200: Proposed Regulatory Guide: Radiation Safety Training for
Radioisotope, Medical Accelerator and Transportation Workers. (under
Regulatory Guidance Documents)

Each document will indicate (in the preface) the individual or
department at the AECB to whom comments or suggestions should be
forwarded.
