Tritiated & C14 Workshop: April 20-21, 1999
Ontario Hydro and Savannah River Site periodically get together to
discuss tritiated and C14 waste issues of common concern. We plan to
hold another such workshop on April 20 -21 in Toronto at the Ontario
Hydro Technology facility. The facility, located at 800 Kipling Avenue,
is 20 minutes from the airport. For the out-of-town travelers, I have
reserved a block of 20 rooms at the Valhalla Inn (416-239-2391) at a
rate of $89 CDN per night, under Ontario Hydro and my name. These rooms
will be held until March 19. The hotel is midway between the airport
and our facility.
The purpose of this workshop will be to share technical information and
experience to advance:
*	waste minimization,
*	characterization,
*	handling,
*	decontamination,
*	treatment and disposal at reduced cost,
*	enhanced worker safety, and
*	reduced environmental risk.

We are interested in fostering dialogue between personnel from different
facilities working on common problems in the tritium and C-14 fields.
The meeting will comprise several 20 minute presentations followed by
open discussion. A tour of the OHT tritium facility will feature the
soft waste outgassing facility, a demonstration of the SAM, and the
plasma decontamination facility.
The tentative list of topics are:
Tritiated Job Waste Characterization
Surface Activity Monitoring
C14 extraction from Resins
Solvent & Oil Processing
Isotope Separation
Tritium Air Monitor Standard
Surface Contamination Monitor Results
Tritium Free-release limits
Tritium D&D
Job Waste Handling/Minimization
Tritium Contaminated Ground Water
Stabilization of Tritium Contaminated sludge
Tritium Contaminated Concrete

This announcement is intended to solicit presenters and participants in
the workshop. Feel free to circulate this notice among colleagues that
you feel may be interested in participating.
Please contact me by return e-mail indicating your interest in attending
and/or presenting and any additional issues that you would like to
introduce into the workshop.
