     Information on the response of ion chambers to alpha particles was 
     studied extensively at LANL when they developed the Long Range Alpha 
     Detector (LRAD). I do not have the name of the individual handy. If 
     you contact Jim Hesch at Eberline he might be able to help you, as 
     Eberline obtained the rights to the technology and are marketing a 
     device based upon the work done at LANL.
