I would suggest that a much more likely cause is the soap used for the anti-C clothing he might be wearing or some other similar allergic reaction.  I have had numerous situations where red-headed or fair skinned individuals have developed dermatitis for now apparent reason related to the work environment.  It might also be an allergic reaction to some home-borne chemical that only is reported at work (i.e., .e., he did not want to do that job for some reason).
