Foam for immobilizing foot/hand

Podiatrists use a very crushable foam (looks like flower mounting foam, but
less dense) that would probably work quite well for what you're looking for.

There is another product that I'm aware of, but haven't tried, or run into
anyone who'd admit trying: http://www.cloneyourbone.com. This might work
for your application, and would undoubtedly be safe for a hand or foot,
since it's designed for more sensitive areas (!). If you do try it (on
whatever) I'd like to know how well it works, I have a potential
application, but haven't gotten around to getting a kit and trying it.
