Re: Low Level Radioactive Wastes

ATG, Richland has the ability to thermally process the materials for no
disposal volume. They can achieve 100% removal of these radionuclides at
the temperatures they use. Other processors may have the same however more
restrictive thermal abilities. Lost of factors play into the decision
depending on concentration, volume reduction desired, cost, etc,.

Other options include volume reduction (if concentrations allow) or straight
shallow land disposal at one of our low-level waste disposal sites. Since
the volumetric generation rate is typically low compared to an operating
nuclear power plant, these wastes are typically gathered by a broker for
consolidation then sent to one of several waste processors.
