Re: X-ray exposures -Reply

Just to clarify, I was chairperson of this committee when this guide was
produced, & they're not "acceptable" values, but only real world, "what's
out there values." In addition, there's another CRCPD committee (NEXT
Committee) that works with FDA, selects an exam & test protocol, & state
radiation control programs measure the entrance skin exposures for that
exam. CRCPD has several publications with those nationwide values
also. They were included in the data used in the 1992 publication, and
some additional exams were also included based on state measurements.
The year 2000 NEXT exam that will be surveyed is CT.

The US Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors,
which is an organization of state radiation control
agencies, has a publication that provides acceptable ranges
of skin exposures for various x ray procedures:

Average Patient Exposure/Dose Guides-1992, developed by the
Committee on Quality Assurance in Diagnostic X-Ray (H-7),
June 1992, CRCPD Publication 92-4 ($10.00).

See their site at www.crcpd.org

You may get some help from your state radiation control
agency.
