new revision of Regulatory Guide 8.13
Regulatory Guide 8.13, "Instruction Concerning Prenatal Radiation Exposure,"
revision 3, has just been issued by the NRC, and is available on the NRC Web
site. HP's with responsibilities for fetal protection should review this.
Some of the changes are:
The instruction provided to employees, "should describe the licensee's
specific policy on declared pregnant women, including how these policies may
affect a women's work situation..."
A written pregnancy declaration may be considered expired after 1 year.
"... a monthly dose greater than 0.1 rem (1 mSv) should be justified by the
licensee."
There is a suggested form letter for the pregnancy declaration.
"...NRC regulations do not preclude the licensee from requesting medical
documentation of your pregnancy..."
There is an updated list of references.
The opinions expressed are strictly mine.
It's not about dose, it's about trust.
