Radioactive Fossils

There seems to be some interest on Radsafe in radioactivity in fossils and the use of radiation survey instruments to recover buried fossils as well as to survey museum collections in response to health concerns. Ramal (Ray) Jones at the University of Utah Department of Radiological Health has published two papers on the use of his survey instrument and techniques to locate buried fossilized bone. He has also consulted with several museums on the potential health hazards associated with bone and mineral collections. Ray is not on Radsafe, however if anyone wishes to discuss these subjects with Ray you can contact him by phone at (801) 581-6141, or by e-mail. His address is ray@rso.utah.edu.
