RE: Plate Glass composition

I'd just like to point out that there is a definite difference in
composition between plate glass (which is normal soda-lime glass, like
windows, bottles, etc) and borosilicate glass (Pyrex, etc.) Borosilicate
glasses are a much higher temperature glass.

Soda lime glass is typically 70% SiO2, 15-20% Soda, 5% lime (calcium oxide)
with smaller amounts MgO, Al2O3, etc. depending on manufacturer.

Borosilicate glasses are more like 70-75% SiO2, ~15% B2O3, only ~5% soda,
very little lime.

Physical properties (softening point, etc.) are way different.
