ROME (July 29, 1999 5:54 p.m. EDT http://www.nandotimes.com) - Italian 
police said Thursday they had smashed a uranium-trafficking and fraud ring 
concealed behind a Sicily-based front. Ten people were arrested.

The arrests followed an investigation launched a year ago when police found 
a uranium bar in a Rome warehouse, which was part of a cargo that vanished 
in 1988 en route from the United States to Zaire, now the Democratic 
Republic of the Congo, where it was intended for nonmilitary use.
