You may find the web site for the U.S. Gazetteer to be exactly what you need.
It is located at:
http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/gazetteer
It will give you the longitude and latitude for the center of your selected
map out to 5 decimal places. It uses the U.S. Census Bureau's "Tiger Map."
You can start of with either a City/Town name or a zip code. Then just
recenter the map on the exact location and read off the longitude and
latitude at the bottom of the image.
