Mr Jo,

I don't know the exact population of the USA, but roughly (and this is
assuming that the group of people you refer to as "Americans" are citizens
of the USA) 112 million would represent 40 to 45% of the population.  I
strongly gather that there were not 112 million Americans receiving such
procedures...  Therefore, if your recollection is correct, the document most
assuredly was incorrect.  I'd even be suspect of 11.2 million.
