SI vs. English Units

This may rekindle the contentious discussion regarding units, but I
firmly believe that there are consequences, often dire, of having two
separate systems (see quote below). Having used SI units through a PhD
program then arriving into environmental consulting to discover
everything is done in English units was quite a shock to me. What's
worse is the basterdized system of using tenths of an inch (like when
measuring depth to groundwater)!

The U.S. needs to bite the bullet, take the one-time cost hit, and
switch. It will never be cheaper than now. Use SI in the grade schools
and it will be the standard within two generations. Let's get on with
it and join the rest of the world.

My opinion only.
