DESCRIPTION
The CPMC Radiation Safety Office is seeking an experienced and motivated
individual to join its team of radiation safety professionals as a Health
Physicist.

The incumbent in this highly visible and responsible position will assist in
the development, implementation and maintenance of a large-scale broad
license radiation safety program at an internationally prominent
Hospital/University Medical Research Campus. The successful candidate will
assist with the control and minimization of risk associated with the use of
radioactive materials and sources of radiation and will ensure compliance
with the safety and regulatory requirements of the CPMC and NYSPI licenses
and permits for the use, storage, shipping, receiving, transport and
disposal of radioactive materials throughout the CPMC/
NYSPI Campus.

The individual selected will serve as Deputy Radiation Safety Officer for
the Medical Centers Cyclotron Facility - including the Radioligand Research
Laboratory and the associated PET Imaging Suites.  These responsibilities
include monitoring and reporting of all airborne radioactive effluent
discharges; measurement of hood and effluent stack air flows; calculation of
effluent levels and dose to workers and general public. Assist the R.S.O. in
maintaining the N.Y.S.D.O.H. Radioactive Materials Discharge Permit.

Further duties include: conducting ALARA reviews and investigations;
personnel radiation dosimetry and monitoring; calibration and operation of
radioactivity measurement and bioassay instrumentation; safety inspections
of radiation producing equipment; radioactive waste management; source
inventory and leak testing; and other assistance to the R.S.O. as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The position requires a Master of Science in health physics, medical
physics, physics or chemistry and two years progressive experience in
applied health physics.  Excellent verbal written and personal skills are
required. Computer and project management skills, including the ability to
use and develop RSO management software are highly desirable.

The work is performed under the general supervision of the Radiation Safety
Officer or an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer in the Radiation Safety
Office.
