E Coli burger, anyone?

Reuters is carrying a story that the USDA says half of the US cattle carry
the "bad" E Coli bacterium -0157:E7- and there is increasing interest in
food irradiation. The article states USDA rules on irradiation will be out
by the end of December. 

This may be one of those technologies whose time has come, where public
health pressures will outweigh the hysteria of the Luddites. Which hamburger
chain will be the first to step up and say "Our beef is safe- its zapped!"?
