DUTIES: Health Physics Technician to perform various tasks in the campus
radiation safety program under close supervision. Duties include: a)
perform scheduled radiation protection surveys, and prepare the associated
reports; b) transfer radioactive packages to the Health Physics Laboratory,
and inspect, monitor and distribute them; c) perform calibrations of survey
meters; d) perform leak-testing of sealed sources; e) respond to campus
hazardous materials emergencies; f) assist with the training of EH & S
student assistants.
REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of scientific nomenclature, chemical and
biological concepts and laboratory procedures, related to the safe handling
of hazardous materials; written and oral communication skills sufficient to
perform all duties; ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff,
and students.
DESIREABLES: Experience using a personal computer for word processing and
data entry; skill to operate a variety of sampling devices and analytical
instruments; work experience in a research institution's comprehensive
safety program; general knowledge of UCI campus environmental health and
safety policies and procedures related to the use of hazardous materials.
NOTES: This position requires the completion of a successful background check.
