Human Shielding Aspects for Instrumentation

The fact that the human body provides more background shielding than additional
photons is apparent to those who have worked around large gamma-sensitive
monitors such as tool monitors, portal monitors, etc. The background decreases
as you approach/engage the instrument. Such shielding factors should be
considered during calibration of the instrumentation.
