Radiation Safety Manager
The University of Connecticut's Department of Environmental Health and
Safety in Storrs, CT is seeking a Radiation Safety Manager to serve as the
Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), and manage the University's ionizing
radiation, radiological emergency response, and laser safety programs.
Responsibilities include coordination of all aspects of: University's NRC
Broad Scope, SNM, and Specific licenses; main and regional campus
radioactive material use; laboratory safety inspection and environmental
monitoring programs; radiation safety training program; radiation-producing
machine inspection program; equipment, facilities, personnel, and work
environment monitoring for compliance with NRC, State, and University
regulations; development and implementation of safety guidelines; and the
radioactive waste program. The Manager acts as the University's main
interface with regulatory agencies within these program areas, and provides
consultation to University staff regarding appropriate health and safety
procedures. The Manager supervises two Radiation Safety Specialists and
student labor positions.
Minimum qualifications include: a Master's degree in Health Physics or a
related science, and five years of Health Physics program management
experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or a related science,
and seven years of Health Physics program management experience.
Certification in Health Physics (CHP) is highly desirable. Preference will
be given to applicants with experience in an Academic/Research environment.
Applicants must be knowledgeable of NRC and State regulations, possess
excellent written and oral communication skills, and have a valid driver's
license to operate a motor vehicle.
Anticipated starting salary: high fifties. Screening will begin immediately
