Utility Wants Nuke Fuel Stored

Utility Wants Nuke Fuel Stored - (SAN LUIS OBISPO) -- Pacific Gas and
Electric wants to store used nuclear reactor fuel at the Diablo
Canyon power plant for another 20-to-40 years. The utility says a
delay in completion of a national disposal site in Nevada makes such
a move necessary. The plant is running out of room in the two steel-
lined pools where the material is now stored. PG and E is beginning
the process to create more storage space at Diablo Canyon so it can
take the plant through until its planned closure in 2025. It expects
to apply for the necessary permits from the Nuclear Regulatory
Commission next summer.
