CancerCare Manitoba is the provincial agency responsible for cancer control and blood disorders, including prevention, early detection, care and treatment, research, palliation and education throughout Manitoba. We invite applications for the position of:

CancerCare Manitoba provides the radiotherapy services for cancer patients in the Province of Manitoba and it provides radiation physics services to external agencies. CCMB seeks a qualified person to join an existing team with responsibilities to deliver its radiation safety program in accordance with the Regulations of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and industry standards. This is a highly visible position having internal and external clients and significant responsibility to maintain the licensed use of radionuclides and radiotherapy equipment. The work of the incumbent is diversified. It involves teaching, technical measurements, detailed knowledge of regulations and a thorough knowledge of the Canadian licensing process. The incumbent must deliver in-house radiation safety programs to the satisfaction of the corporation and the regulators. The incumbent must acquire and maintain licences for all radionuclides and radiation emitting equipment used in CCMB. The incumbent is also responsible for delivering technical services and consultations related to ionizing radiation to an established set of external clients and to members of the public. The incumbent must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, operate independently and be well organized. He/she is expected to prepare and deliver lectures and courses on radiation topics to staff and students at a variety of levels, including students in the School of Radiation Therapy and in the Medical Physics graduate program. Program details must be well documented and specialized consultative reports must be prepared. The incumbent must maintain awareness of the world literature in this topical area and reflect the application of world trends as they are converted into Canadian regulations and standards of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate for this position would possess a physics background at the M.Sc. level with five years of direct experience in radiation safety or in a radiation-related field. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in a well-organized independent manner are required. In exchange for these skills the incumbent will occupy a respected position within the facility and will provide unique services. The services delivered are those that are essential to the maintenance of radiotherapy equipment licenses, to the delivery of cancer care and to the development of other workers.
