John,

I knew this name with the different spelling like Jack Custo as in
French spelling it would sounded as Jacque Cousteau.
I think, he died recently, last year or year before, he was/is the
famous French underwater diver/naturalist. Back when I was a kid in
the old country, I watched few documentary movies about his under
water record dives, they were pretty interesting. He holds some world
records in underwater diving and also he used the bell for the dives,
I do not remember if he ever used the scuba equipment or not. 
I never heard of his philosophical convictions.
