Planner 1/ Radiological Training Specialist  POSTING DATE: April 20, 2006      CLOSING DATE  May 4, 2006 POSITION TITLE: Planner 1/ Radiological Training Specialist POSITION NUMBER: 54817PAY GRADE: 15POSITION STATUS: State BudgetedLOCATION: AtlantaSALARY RANGE: $34,533.36 - $60,487.20 HIRING RANGE: $34,533.36 - $45,003.36  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the general supervision of the Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program (REP) Director this Planner continues to develop and provide Radiological Training to the counties near fixed nuclear facilities that impact Georgia. Assist the REP Program Director in daily activities and in planning for and conducting exercises as required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Planner will be required to provide training in Emergency Radiological Protection, radiological device use, dosimetry for emergency workers, decontamination procedures for emergency worker equipment as well as, emergency worker personnel. Planner will be responsible for providing training to Emergency Medical services personnel and hospital emergency room staff in the safe handling and treatment of a radiologically contaminated injured individual.  Planner will be directly responsible for the maintenance, calibration and rotation of radiation detection instruments and devices utilized by the various organizations supported by REP. Collaborates with special committees and organizations as assigned. Assist with state emergencies and/or federal disasters at the Office of Homeland Security/Georgia Emergency Management Agency's State Operation Center or in the field. Maintain working relationships with local Emergency Management Directors and other local officials to ensure adequacy of REP training for the nuclear facilities that impact Georgia. Represent GEMA as a REP Team Member, as necessary or directed, in matters pertaining to Radiological Emergency Preparedness. Maintain a high degree of professional competence by attending training sessions as provided by FEMA, NRC, private industry and state government. Other duties as assigned. Travel required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in a science related field from a four-year college or university and two years of professional level work experience in the medical, radiological or medical radiological field or other field commensurate with requirements as listed above. Working level skill in the use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and contact management application programs.  OR Four years of professional, level work experience in the medical, radiological or medical radiological field or other field commensurate with requirements as listed above. AND Working level skill in the use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and contact management application programs. Demonstrated ability to work and provide training in a positive and helpful manner with the public, local and state government personnel and local emergency management agency personnel. Ability to travel overnight and statewide as necessitated by the position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Completion of a Science degree from an accredited college or university. Experienced in developing and providing radiological emergency training to the public, local and state government personnel and local emergency management agency personnel. Significant professional level work experience in radiological emergency preparedness training commensurate with requirements as listed above. Intermediate to advanced level proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Lotus Notes. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability of travel overnight and statewide as necessitated by the position.
