Nuclear is suddenly very big business! DOE's announcements of a renewed
emphasis on nuclear energy and proposal to begin reprocessing spent fuel
came out on Monday with the rollout of the President's FY2007 budget.
Then this is out on Tuesday morning. Coincidence?

ENERGY SOLUTIONS TO ACQUIRE DURATEK

EnergySolutions, the company recently formed from Envirocare, BNG
America, and Scientech D&D (WC Monitor, Vol. 17 No. 5), will announce
its impending acquisition of Duratek later today, WC Monitor has
learned. The $396 million acquisition of Duratek further shores up
EnergySolutions’ efforts to form a company that can provide
cradle-to-grave waste services, from remediation and characterization to
transportation and ultimate disposition. Notably, the acquisition will
likely have to clear some regulatory hurdles before it becomes final,
given that EnergySolutions would now have control over the only two
national commercial low-level waste disposal facilities in the
country—Envirocare of Utah and Barnwell, which is operated by Duratek
subsidiary Chem Nuclear.
