[ RadSafe ] Credentialling and court

Sandy, your point was well taken and I agree with what you have said. For
once, I never "shove" my CHP down anyone 's throat as I have to much respect
for experience. I am the first to admit that I am very good....at passing
exams so CHP was not a very big challenge for me. Certification is only an
"easy" way to establish a certain standard. And I insist on "easy". Look
the new millenium carefully. How many new "hires" under 40 years old don't
have a degree of some form or certification? Very close to 0%. It is easier
for an employer, a manager etc. to screen with a degree or certification,
then trying to assess "experience". It is sad, as if one could easily assess
experience,we would not be discussing any of these right now.

Yes, in 2006, we still have the same discussion about certification vs
experience as we had in 2005,2004, 2003... but we can also apply it to
training, understanding of concepts and retention. I have read the trend
about the Boston road incident and the Empty containers....Not surprised of
the outcome. I bet that the driver had a DOT certificate in his pocket. This
is also a form of certification don't you think ? I assume that the first
responders had ALSO a CERTIFICATE somewhere at their workplace. But without
field experience that brings real understanding of a topic, how good was
certification ?

Happy New (Occidental) Year everyone ! (Can we say that ? Is it pollitically
correct ?)

Hi Shawn,

I don't disagree with your comments. I did not say that a degree was
required in order to testify. What I said, or meant to say, was that
in many cases, a jury most likely will have more confidence with
testimony from not only an expert, but an expert that also has a
degree.

If my intent was not clear, I hope that it is now. Glad I gave you an
opportunity to jump into the discussion :)

Sandy
