Stewart:

I wonder whether Jefferson could have envisaged "tyranny over the minds of man" by other than governmental powers.

Apart from this ambiguity I am all with you.

Regarding radiophobia and exploitation by some of trivial radiation risk:. I recall from my stamp collecting days as a child, a wonderful quote by Thomas Jefferson on one of the late 1950s vintage "Champions of Liberty" series
stamps:

"I have sworn eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the minds of man"

John:

You are right in so far as the combination of letters "p-h-o-b-i-a" does not occur in this paper.

Yet, I maintain that nevertheless terms used by Durodié like
-- "exaggerated perception of risk",
-- "politics of fear",
-- "demand for blame" pushed by some "resolute few"

do relate and pertain very well also to radiophobia as one of the

-- "illnesses of modernity".

BTW:
"Those who corrupt the public mind are just as evil as those who steal from the public purse."(Adlai Stevenson)

Unfortunately, any attempt to prosecute such behaviour as the criminal evil which it is would ultimately result in restrictions of freedom of opinion and of speech so that we have to live with this evil.

Regards, Rainer

Rainer,
I scanned the article and did not see any reference to radiophobia or phobia of any kind indicated.

I think you are reading too much into this article, which is what the anti-nuclear people also do.
