Agreed, Mike, that 1, acid rain and 2, smog WERE problems- before sulfur was precipitated out of coal power plant emissions and before California reduced auto H2SO4.
But 3, how do you explain the CO2 content of prevailing winds leaving the east coast being consistently LESS (~360) than in the air coming into the USA (~365 ppm) in prevailing west winds (see TV weather reports)?
This is enough reason the USA should be exempt from any carbon tax!
I explain it by Nat. Forest Service reports that we have 50% MORE forest than 50 years ago. Other countries should follow our example.
We need 10 more nuclear power plants in CA, so the air you see on TV weather reports flowing from us over the rest of the USA stays cleaner than 40 years ago.
Viva hybrid cars! I work from my modest home-office, unlike mansion jetter Gore, so I am much greener. Gore, like other carbon taxers, promotes his $, not our health or prosperity.

The evidence is clear that climate change happens, and that stuff going
into the air are one of the factors. Whether human activity is the
major factor or just a factor is certainly subject to debate. I think
things like a "carbon tax" is silly, but there are a number of things
that I am pretty confident of:
(1) Acid rain is real. There are cities in America and Europe in which
limestone buildings and statues are being etched by acid falling from
the sky. There are lakes that used to have healthy fish populations
that no longer do, and the acid shock after a rain appears to be the
reason. The connection between burning fossil fuel and acid rain is
well established.
(2) Smog is real. I mean, really, is there anyone who is going to argue
that? Is there anyone who believes the brown haze that most cities are
submerged in is cause by solar fluctuation?
(3) Deforestation is real. If you look at satellite pictures of almost
any of the remaining great forests you will see a difference from one
year to the next, and it is almost never in the direction of more trees.
The change is almost never one that is good in terms of air cleaning or
erosion or wildlife habitat.
If you feel uncomfortable doing something to address global warming, do
something to address these three demonstrable, real, and important
issues. Don't not address them simply because that actions would help
with global warming (if it is real), too.

Simple.
Are you convinced that Greenland really was green, warmer than now,
1,000 years ago?
" " " " London and even Venice did not flood
then?
Why worry? Only to enrich selective scaremongers with a carbon tax >
$2,000/year/family!
But if it motivates people to support nuclear power, keep the scam
going - for a while.

I'm not qualified to state whether global warming is happening or not,
even though I realize the theory is a boon for the nuclear industry.
What IS happening is critics of the theory, people like Reid Bryson and
Bjorn Lomborg, who raise a healthy skepticism, are vilified, personally
attacked and likened to Holocaust deniers and fools. Whether we KNOW
Global Warming is caused by anthropogenic carbon dioxide or not,
everyone KNEW that Galileo's view of heliocentrism was wrong....
The public is confusing sound science for what has now become big
business, especially in the US.
