Subject: [ RadSafe ] Re: :KI
In a previous discussion on radsafe, concern was expressed regarding the
prophylactic use of KI because of the radioactivity of the potassium.
NaI was proposed to avoid this problem, but rejected because the sodium
may cause hypertension. LiI might be the best bet. Even though it may
not protect against the effects of radioiodine, with the Lithium intake,
the recipient may not care :-)

It is tiresome to have to keep repeating this. It has been demonstrated
that painting a patch of skin the size of your palm with tincture of
iodine or with povidone will load the thyroid with iodine. It doesn't
mess with potassium concentrations in the body and is conveniently being
stockpiled at your local pharmacies and grocery stores and, perhaps, in
your medicine cabinet, even as we write and read.
Best regards.
