Well the upgrade used to be available but not anymore. This is the word
from our PerkinElmer service engineer.

Jim: That MRL wouldn't be a low-mileage vehicle purchased at auction
in Michigan would it? =)

Thanks for the word even though it was not what we were hoping to
hear.

Mike: Yes unfortunately the xp upgrade path has been discontinued for
these instruments (a sales dept. decision).

Dennis

This was posted on radsafe. You have mentioned several times that our
unit could be upgraded to an MS Windows unit by changing out the
motherboard and the operating system. Is this still true? Is it
possible in Michigan but not in Georgia for some reason?

Thanks,
Mike

Colleagues --

Got an interesting issue for you. We currently have in our Mobile
Radiation Laboratory (MRL) a circa 1993 Packard (aka Perkin-Elmer)
TR2500A/B liquid scintillation counter (LSC) running under DOS 4.X.
We're in the process of trying to upgrade our MRL to a networked
Windows-based system. It is my understanding that Perkin-Elmer used to
offer a hardware / software upgrade that would bring this detector up
to
near current specs -- including running on Windows XP. Our local
service
tech, however, is telling us that this was a limited-time promotion
that
is no longer available -- and that our only option is to buy a new LSC
-- which we don't have the funds to do.

Does anybody have a suggestion as to how we might proceed? Are there
any third-party system integrators who might be able to help us out
here?

Thanks in advance for your help!
