Good points -- anything to pacify the public -- and to be seen "doing
something". Guess the job's not worth doing unless somebody sees you
doing it, and you get credit for it.

        Note what the initial article said:  "Politicians say" the
devices will eliminate the chance of dirty bombs coming into the city.

        Politicians will say anything to try and placate the public. 
Besides, how much do you suppose the typical politician knows about
dirty bombs, as opposed to (for instance) what he knows about his
chances of being re-elected?
