The Chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents is also an analytical chemist and may have some strong feelings about one of his campuses becoming center stage for a group of scientific charlatans
Charles W. Manning, Chancellor
Charles Manning joined the Board of Regents as Chancellor in April 2000 after serving for 10 years as Chief Executive Officer of the University System of West Virginia. Since coming to Tennessee, Manning has overseen the launch of the highly successful Regents Online Degree Program and has led the TBR system through a re-engineering process called Defining Our Future, which has resulted in more effective service to the people of Tennessee. He is also actively involved in the implementation of the settlement of the Geier case, a 20-year-old desegregation lawsuit
Under Manning's leadership, West Virginia rose to 13th among the states in public investment in higher education relative to the per capita income of its citizens. His success as chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents and of the university system of West Virginia, together with his service in earlier years as executive vice chancellor of the Oklahoma system and deputy director for the Colorado commission on higher education, constitutes a remarkable record of higher education leadership in America.
Manning earned his B.A. in chemistry from Western Maryland College and his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of Maryland and has done post doctoral work in chemistry at the Institute for Anorganische und Kkernchemie, Johannes Gutenberg Universitat.
