Description: RADIATION CONTROL TECHNICIAN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY 



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
University Administration, Environmental Health & Safety seeks a
Radiation Control Technician. Duties include, but not limited to:
Process routine incoming radioactive shipments; perform standard
laboratory radiation surveys; collect routing and special samples;
perform analysis and process analytical data; participate in the
radioactive waste program; operate calibration range and perform
instrument calibration; prepare and maintain records; make
routine/special observations of the status of radiation control systems,
summarize data and status of approval holders, rooms and labs; provide
assistance to lab personnel on routine radiation safety matters and
during contamination clean up; participate in area monitor measurement
program, radiological disaster drills/actual emergencies and arrange for
the safe handling of radioactive materials. Drive University vehicles. 

REQUIREMENTS 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
Associate's degree or equivalent certification in Radiation or Physical
Sciences AND one year of radiation monitoring experience; OR Three years
of radiation monitoring experience; OR, any equivalent combination of
education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and
abilities have been achieved. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
Demonstrated knowledge of: radiation monitoring instrumentation and
methods; interpretation and applying federal, state and university rules
and regulations regarding radiation control; principles and practices of
radiation safety; laboratory procedures and instrumentation such as
liquid scintillation spectrometers, multi-channel analyzers and
proportional counters. Effective verbal and written communication
skills. Experience working in a radiation environment. Experience
Microsoft Applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook). 

GENERAL INFORMATION 
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license upon employment. Position
will require lifting up to 50 lbs.
