I'm getting a lot of requests about just how heavy and how much space
those journals take up. So I weighed and measured one box and did some
quick calculations.

It seems most efficient to post the info to RADSAFE for all to see.

Already boxed:

11 boxes, each has about 19 shelf inches of journals and a
representative box weighted 51 pounds.

Newer journals not yet boxed:

31 shelf inches, est 83 pounds

Duplicates:

mostly from the 70's, 75 shelf inches, est 202 lbs

Total estimate:

17 boxes, 846 lbs 26.3 shelf feet

Boxes are 10 ream copy paper boxes. Smaller boxes would most likely
ship with less potential for damage.

Different journal sizes not considered in calculation - all calculations
based on new larger format so shelf space is most likely and under
estimate but weight and box count should be pretty close (all the
smaller sized ones are already in boxes).
