hmmm, don't get me started on the "Queen's" english with its silent
letters and other, in my view, nonsense peculiarities such as different
pronunciation of words spelt the same.

Oops: folk-sell IS the correct (marine) pronunciation for forecastle!

As is "Wooster" for Worcestershire. The "Queens" English can be funny at

Actually, I believe it comes more from Texas, as in San An-ton-ya (San
Antonio) or La-ray-da (Laredo). Been there, heard it said.....said it,
too.
