If I am not mistaken, the original DOE Worker Compensation Program only
required the fact that the individual worked at a DOE site and that they
had an illness. They were then provided with compensation. That is how I
remember the program. I believe that the requirements have changed since
the early days and there are more stringent requirements that must now
be met.

I know there are list members who are quite familiar with the program
and can elaborate and correct any misstatement.

I agree that it is an all too common 'leap of faith' that because a
worked at one of the DOE nuclear facilities they must have been exposed
to rad
iation. With respect to this case, I suggest that the body be exhumed
checked to see if there is any body burden remaining. Not conclusive,
certainly would add some actual data to the case. It could very well be
living at the higher altitude of Los Alamos resulted in more radiation
for the individual than his work at Los Alamos. Also, nothing is said
the life history of the individual as an adult and the possible
after he left Los Alamos. It will be an interesting case if it ever
goes to court.
