Most American TV news programs long ago ceased to be credible to all but the willingly
dupped. It is supermarket tabloid stuff, just entertainment, in a flashy emotional format. This
story is a great example.
The performers (don't ask me to call them journalists) who broadcast the story have almost
zero facts, but who needs facts when you have a tearful mother and a little boy tragically
victimized (maybe) by the unfeeling and incompetent healthcare establishment? A story that
should have had 3 sentences emphasizing ongoing inquiry is turned into a circus. Is it
because they care? No, just as Peter wrote, it is for ratings ( ie, money). Too bad if the
hospital takes a big financial hit, or if groundless fears of radiation result in undiagnosed
conditions because people shun those deadly scanners.
OK, rant mode off now. Back to work. :P

Remember that although this was a CBS network station, the report was
done locally and was not any responsibility of CBS News. Also remember
that November is sweeps month and that the ratings for the month will
decide how much they can charge for advertising.
