Remember that although this was a CBS network station, the report was done
locally and was not any responsibility of CBS News. Also remember that
November is sweeps month and that the ratings for the month will decide how
much they can charge for advertising.

Yes, my thought was if these strange marks that appeared so quickly were
from radiation, there would be severe erythema appearing later, which
certainly would have been documented. Remember this is CBS, not exactly
renowned for fairness and accuracy in journalism (Texas air national guard
letters, 60 minutes, etc.). But now the poor parents are scared out of their
wits, and more people will probably avoid having their kids get CTs that are
needed for their medical care. I strongly advocate the use of appropriate
exposure settings for pediatric CT and a general reduction in use of CTs in
adults and children, but I believe there are RESPONSIBLE ways to get
people's attention and bring about change on the issue, not the CBS/Brenner
way. The HPS should be at the forefront of this issue, but I don't know if
there are any active efforts ongoing.
