When one of our units did this it turned out to be a faulty 'SPU' amplifier board, and the only repair was return to the manufacturer for replacement circuit board and recalibration.

Thank you all for hints and advices.
Sadly it´s none of the supposed reasons so far.
Every time some secondes after beginning of stabilization I get:
"Error #4 GAIN Error System unsusable Consult Manual"
The Cs-137 cal source is still o.k. after 8 years
And so is the backup battery: Date/Clock is o.k.
But thanks Colin for the good idea of possibly aged high meg restors in the HT-Supply.
Maybe that´s it.
All I still need is a circuit diagram....
