Hi Maury,
When the arithmetic is done correctly and the last quarter century of data
is included, the graph looks something like

pressed to see any long term correlation between sunspots and climate.
The problem is that 99% of what we hear from the global warming supporters
is nonsense and that 99% of what we hear from global warming skeptics is
nonsense. That doesn't mean there are not good people on either side, doing
good science. They just don't get to hold the microphone. It is these
outrageous urban legends that can only come about by arithmetic mistakes or
by manipulating data that can propagate themselves, because they are so
sensational.
I'm not sure how well a democratic society can govern itself when the public
is consistently being fed only falsehoods.
