There are at least three episodes of utterly desperate political events
now underway and should be apparent for the next several days. Both
involve appalling Miscarriages of Science as great damage is done to all
disciplines.
One such event is the profound requirement of the Obama Administration
to pass the Health Care bill in the Senate before the Congress adjourns
for its year end recess. The actual content and cost of the Senate bill
is neither known nor understood. The sole interest now is to simply pass
the bill regardless of all other considerations. Neither cost nor
content matters -- truth or no is not of any consequence; the do-or-die
effort now is merely to pass a bill. Legislators are lying about the
bill in public and to each other; they are making secret deals in closed
door exclusive meetings of one party to the exclusion of the other. The
President has given whatever power he has to gain passage. They know
that if they fail to meet the timeline requirement of the end of the
year, then the odds rise sharply that the bill will have insufficient
votes to pass next year.
The second desperate event is the global climate disaster taking shape
in Copenhagen. This conceptual science fiction has become so completely
fragmented that a variety of sources are willing to publish all kinds of
fictional data and false claims. There are press conferences announcing
how the worlds polar ice caps (both north and south) are melting faster
that anyone thought, that the oceans are becoming acidified by record
levels of CO2 dissolved from the atmosphere, that glaciers over the
entire globe are disappearing at a faster rate than anyone had dreamed,
that the present decade is about to become the second or fourth or
whatever warmest in history, and on and on and on. All of these claims
are promoted in the face of wide admission that a peak in mean annual
global temperature was reached in 1998 and that mean annual global
temperatures are thus far in a small but very real ten year decline.
The third is the triangulated blackmail unfolding in the Congress, the
EPA, and the President. A variety of forces are so desperate to pass a
carbon cap trading scheme that the President is willing to threaten the
Congress that if it does not act, the he will promote actions by the EPA
to reduce carbon emissions which will be much more harsh than anything
the Congress might do. This is truly an absurd act to demonstrate to
all of us unfortunate observers just who can pick up a turd by the clean
end.
I have no idea how these insane behaviors will be resolved, but huge
sums of money and resources are involved as are the imposition of giant
controls on individual liberties throughout the world.
Don Quixote is going absolutely bonkers! Savor well the bizarre plays
before us -- they are seldom available to be witnessed.
Cheers,
