Dear Bob Yoss,

In 1999, during the course of an interview, I asked Dr Yuri Vishnevskiy, the then Chairman, Federal Nuclear and Radiation Safety Authority of Russia a few questions on the morale of the staff of nuclear power stations in Russia post Chernobyl.

"If you have an option, would you advise your son to join the nuclear field?" I asked him, with a straight face! I felt sheepish when he responded that his son is in the nuclear field. I published the text of the interview in the Newsletter of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board

I understand that women in Russia occupy important positions as physicians as well. Knowing a little about Russia, I will not be as sure as you are!

Regards
K.S.Parthasarathy

Ask any little girl in Russia what she wants to be when she grows up and
she'll probably say an actress or a singer, maybe even a teacher. But
it's highly unlikely that nuclear physicist will be anywhere near the
top of the list.
