What probably happened is someone on the list signed up with Spokeo.  Spokeo 
then e-mails everyone in his/her addressbook with an invitation. The 
individual who signed up should have been aware of this, but like many, does 
not read the fine print. Folks are too easily lured into these social 
engineering traps, some of which are viral.
