I think I have hailed you before for your insightful comments - so let me do
it again! 

Yes, the USA armed without any doubt the Taliban. This shows once again the
inability of the USA to take local "laws" and customs into consideration and
to develop future scenarios. Just this would be really necessary. It took
hundreds of years to introduce democracy in Europe - so who expects that in
these countries it would be introduced within a few years? But another nasty
question: Is the US democracy or the European one really something to
recommend?.....

I have not been in these areas and have no desire to go there, but I would
like to cite a comment of a newspaper-reader: Let them fight their
intertribal wars! Sorry, I forgot about the oil.....

We must remember that the Iraqis (and the US's favored allay Saddam
Hussein!) were armed by the US...... which explains the distrust and
animosity of the Iranians in power towards the US......

Precisely the attitude of the Iranians (and their opinion - somewhat
justified by past events - of the US)......

NOTE: I am not in favor of nuclear arms for Iran: just pointing out that it
is necessary to look at all sides of an argument.....
