Hi,
Early multistage image intensifiers used Thorium doped glass to increase the refractive index of the optical faceplates.

I came across a military "image intensifier" that reads about 4 mR/hr on contact. It appears to contain U and Th and ?. Anyone have the 411 on this item (nuclides and activities)? (Photo available)
