[ RadSafe ] Doubts on Cancer Statistics

Hi Emilio, These are my guesses but a lot was changing in the US in the latter part of the 20th century.  This peak may be linked to the following changes:
 
decreases in cigarette smoking 
increased regulations in environmental protection and worker protection.  
better medical diagnostic techniques being developed in the 70s and 80s so that cancer was more correctly identified.
 
Do any of the medical people know if Medical Examiner requirements for auopsy or diagnosis changed around these times?  Thaat would add to better diagnosis as well.

Hello Radsafers, searching for cancer statistics i run across

ancer cases around 1990. Could someone explain the reason of this to me? 
houldn't this behaviour be unsual?
