Some more history on Jim Hansen:  While developing his global warming
theory, he met with much resistance.  Thus he coined the phrase, "It's
not easy being green," and created a puppet frog named Kermit to get the
word out.  Though the frog refused to marry Miss Piggy, they
nevertheless had hundreds of illegitimate hybrid offspring known as
"frigs."  Kermit and Piggy frequently talked about those friggin'
children.  (Piggy steadfastly refused to use her married name of Mrs.
Froggy)  The little frigs knew they owed their lives to Jim, so they
joined the global warming crusades, marauding and pillaging formerly
sound institutions as they overturned centuries of scientific
discipline.  Sadly, the little pond-rats froze to death in Antarctica
after someone, in an attempt to save the planet, shut off the power to
the hot tub in which they were relaxing.  When investigation by UNICEF
implicated their mother, Miss Piggy, she cried, "Moi?!" in feigned
surprise as she desperately trie
 d to save her skin.  The barbeque was fantastic!

Oh, crap-Henson?  Never mind!

I would suggest reading any work you can get your hands on from Jim
Hansen. He is a the leading scientist who bought about the idea of
global warming. He studied under Van Allen and continued the work of
Carl Sagan. He first proposed the idea in the late 70's. He was not his
own advocate rather he was totally consumed with his work. By the late
80's the world's scientists had examined his work and found it
creditable. 
Bush I and Clinton took his work seriously and Bush II also at first
took him seriously even campaigned for regulation to curb CO2 emission.
About two years later no one in the administration would even talk to
him, in fact efforts were not to silence him.

For a good book about Jim Hansen read "Censoring Science" the book is
about the man, Jim Hansen, not about Global warming.

My personal oppinion only: The climate is changing through NATURAL
processes. The true science behind the reason this change is occuring
DOES NOT indicate that human kind is the cause. If one objectively
studies the data, one can conclude that mother nature is very
unpredictable. Jumping to a conclusion driven by the extreme views of
certain organizations is simply wrong. I guess that the same kind of
conclusions could be drawn about radiation. As scientists, we all should
stick with the facts.

I found the following article very interesting (see link bellow). The  
matter of risk assessment has been blown to huge proportions in modern  
westertn societies and the extent and funding of risk management has  
not always been justified by facts. I think the issue (and the  
protest) put forward by Harold Lewis applies to many situations that  
we have had to deal with (myself in a hospital) in order to appease an  
often phobic public. Radiation safety is always an easy target for all  
kinds of "zealots".
