Dear Colleague:

Please join us in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 7-11, 2013 for the 245th
American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting and Exposition. The
program theme of the meeting is The Chemistry of Energy and Food. To that
end, we have organized a Symposium titled ?Radiochemistry and Risk
Assessment of Food and Potable Water Contaminated with Radionuclides.? The
Symposium will bring national and international experts to communicate on
all aspects of radiation in food and potable water such as:

- entry of artificial and natural radionuclides into the food chain and
water supply
- methods of food decomposition for radiological assessment
- radiochemical separation and leaching of radionuclides from food
- measurement of alpha, beta, gamma radioactivity, as well as mass
spectrometry of food and water
- methods of low-level detection of radionuclides with application to food
- computational methods useful in determination of radioactivity in food,
such as detection limit calculations, estimation of uncertainties, Monte
Carlo calculations of detector efficiencies
- risk assessment associated with consumption of food and water
contaminated with radionuclides
- incident response, e.g., contamination of food following the Fukushima
disaster
- national and international radiological exercises addressing emergency
response for food and water

Additional information on this Symposium is located at
www.cofc.edu/~nuclear. The information about the ACS Meeting can be found
at www.acs.org. Abstract submission will open at the ACS web page starting
August 20, 2012.

The Organizing Committee is looking forward to your attendance and
participation in New Orleans.

Sincerely,

Thomas Semkow, Chair of the Organizing Committee
