[ RadSafe ] Supposed Courage of Margaret Chan WHO DirectorGeneral, on ionising radiation

As Shakespeare put it:
"Cowards die a thousand times before their deaths. Heroes only taste of
death but once."
To listen to those who are seeking to scare the general public half-to-death
about each individual risk factor [and much more in aggregate] by
exaggerating the hazard of the latest "risk du jour", one could say that
scaremongers are essentially cowards scaring people into fearing dying
"1,000 times before their deaths" from things like:
--Alar on apples for example --and general trivial levels of pesticides in
food vs. being able to feed the world's hungry
--Genetically modified foods [ GMO ]-- while saving millions from starvation
using higher yield crops
--Irradiated foods - which limits insect infestation, and food spoilage, or
the creation of known potent carcinogens like Aflatoxin-B resulting in
morbidity and mortality from liver cancer
--Radon at low levels in a person's basement exceeding 4 pCi/L air,
--Nuclear power plant emissions yielding a total population exposure a
minute fraction of total radiation exposure and less per individual than the
most minute fluctuations in background while delivering environmentally
advantageous electric generation and minimizing morbidity and mortality, and
environmental impacts from aspects of non-nuclear power generation: sulfur
dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, fine particulates, Gigatons/year of carbon
into the atmosphere, or hydro with dam failures killing over 100,000 people
in China in 1975, wind turbines having result in over 100 deaths due to
accidents to date in producing a piddling amount of electricity in the big
picture, etc.
The recent lack of courage [ i.e. cowardice ] by Margaret Chan, WHO Director
General, shows she is not even familiar with, or chooses to ignore, the
founding principles of the World Health Organization [ WHO ] which I recall
reading about as a grad student in Pubic Health as to the definition of
Public Health:
===============================
What is the WHO definition of health?
"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and
not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The bibliographic citation
for this definition is: Preamble to the Constitution of the World Health
Organization as adopted by the International Health Conference, New York, 19
June - 22 July 1946; signed on 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61
States (Official Records of the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100)
and entered into force on 7 April 1948. The definition has not been amended
since 1948."
Perhaps we should send the WHO definition of health to the current WHO
Director General. I don't thing she really cares since she is approaching
her job with a political agenda, not a scientific basis.

If no level of radiation is safe, how come the human race have survived
this many millenniums?? Does she have an answer and what proof does she
have?
Who is she trying to scare and what does she suppose we should do about
it!

Courage of Margaret Chan WHO Director General, on ionising radiation
by Christina MacPherson
HISTORY WAS MADE. Marion Odell, 29 Sept 2012 On May 12, 2011 history was
quietly made when courageous WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said
"There
is no safe low level of radiation."
Until May 12, 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) always followed
the
lead of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on nuclear health
effects issues as there is a 1959 agreement that WHO would accept the
findings of that organization. This agreement is still in effect and
hopefully will be rescinded soon.
However this most likely will need some considerable political pressure
from
the
public. It is imperative that we support this tremendously important
pronouncement and spread the message far and wide. This is a
breakthrough
that will impress the public because of the prestige of the World Health
Organization and the integrity of the
Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan.
The letter to Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan from the International
Institute of Concern for Public appears below. It can also be seen at
