Hmmmmm,

I wonder which ions, which materials and what are the energies of
interest.

Many people in the USA can get a copy of MCNPX by sending the money
to Los Alamos or wherever.
I don't know what the concerns would be.

Other possible (shielding???) computer codes are: MCNP, LAHET, CASIM,
FLUKA, Mars (USSR) and many others. Many different codes and software
packages are available for a handling charge from the RSICC (Radiation
Shielding Information Center) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Newer versions of
such codes can be gotten from the code's authors.

A code for electron gamma showers is EGS.

    Good Luck Joe Preisig

Hi All,

A friend of mine (astronomer) is looking for code similar to MCNP-X that
will calculate the energy loss of ions as a function of distance traveled to
the interaction with different materials.

They have concerns about the licensing and use requirements of MCNP-X.

I have only used MCNP-X and haven't really looked for other options.

I thought that someone on the list may know of something that I can pass
along to him.

Thanks,

Jeff
