RadSafe,
On April 3, 2013, a Notice of Availability for Federal Guidance Report No. 14, Radiation Protection Guidance for Diagnostic and Interventional X-ray Procedures, was published in the Federal Register (Vol 78, issue 64, pages 20103 - 20104). Comments are being collected until June 3. An interagency work group of physicians, dentists, veterinarians, medial physicists, and health physicists has been working on this guidance for several years. It replaces Federal Guidance Report No. 9 from 1976, and updates the guidance to include digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), and interventional fluoroscopy. Per capita medical radiation doses have been climbing rapidly in recent years, and while this increase is associated with a favorable benefit to risk ratio, there remains great opportunity for reducing individual patient doses. This guidance will help federal health care facilities reduce patient doses without compromising patient care. It is hoped that private sector facilities also will find this guidance useful.
